Chocolate might be one of the most love flavors on the planet. It is not just a candy, a flavoring. Chocolate is a substance that has a power over people. It can turn a bad mood, soothe tempers, and encourage romance. Although a native to the Central and South Americas, the Cocoa tree is now found all around the equator. It is a fruit of the tree that has a whitish flesh and purple hued seeds which, when dried, become what we know commonly as the coco bean.

1.  Don't neglect the pre-writing process.

Mouse A Cookie

How to Write an Introduction - 5 Steps to Help You

Pre-writing should take up most of your time as a writer, unless you have a great deal of experience in what you're writing about (and even then, your writing will be much stronger if you go through the pre-writing process).  Pre-writing begins with research, research, research.  You want to research more than you think you need to, and then after you think you've definitely researched enough, research just a little bit more.  After researching comes the steps of forming a general thesis, then a general outline, then your first draft.  There's much more to be said pre-writing, but for now, stick to those four steps:  research, thesis, outline, draft.  As you will see below, you cannot write an introduction without a thesis, and you cannot write an introduction without knowing where your report will go after your thesis.  My advice?  Write your introduction dead last!

How to Write an Introduction - 5 Steps to Help You

2.  Your thesis is the star of the show.

If your report were a debutante ball, all the effort that goes into arranging the party would be the pre-writing process; the environment, music, attendees, fruit punch, and so forth would be the body of your report; but the debutante herself would be your thesis.  She may be only one person amongst hundreds of other guests, but all the other guests are there for her -- she's the star of the show.  The job of your introductory paragraph or introductory section is to introduce your thesis.  Therefore, your whole introduction should build up to your thesis.

No matter what your thesis is, your introduction needs to perform certain tasks, which are now listed below.

3.  Present a problem, then solve it with your thesis.

For example, if you are writing about the new and improved mouse trap you have invented and want to sell, your thesis might be, "My mousetrap is better than all the existing mousetraps on the market today."  Your introduction, then, needs to begin by stating that there is a problem with existing mousetraps.

So your first sentence might be,

"No one likes to have mice in their house, but unfortunately most mousetraps do not effectively remove mice" (the problem).

If the first sentence or paragraph in your introduction presents a problem, the next few sentences should begin to guide the reader into solving the problem.  Continuing with the mousetrap example, your next few sentences might state,

"In a traditional mousetrap, mice frequently eat the cheese without getting caught."  (This is what's wrong with existing traps.)  "My mousetrap contains cheese inside a trapdoor, which the mouse automatically triggers upon entering the trap.  The mouse is then caught inside, along with the cheese." (Wow, your mousetrap sounds like an improvement!)  "Therefore, my mousetrap is better than all the existing mousetraps on the market today."

5.  Once you've stated your thesis, tell your reader what else they will learn when they read your report.

Do you remember learning the five paragraph essay in high school?  There were some parts of this cookie-cutter writing format that were horrendous, and ought never to have been taught to poor, unsuspecting high school students.  However, there are parts of this writing method that are useful, and which I still use today.  One of those is:  tell your reader what you are going to say, say it, and tell them you said it.  Now, in some writing philosophies, you tell your reader what your report is about before you get to the thesis, and your thesis is the very last sentence of your introduction.  Personally I do not like this method.  I prefer to state my thesis, and then give my reader a reason to read the rest of the report.  Using the mousetrap example again, after stating the thesis, you could go on to tell the reader how you will prove that your mousetrap is the best in a second introductory paragraph:

"First, I will examine the three top-selling mousetraps on the market and their significant flaws.  Then, I will explain the research and development process for my mousetrap.  Finally, I will present two case studies of businesses that have successfully implemented my mousetraps."

I think readers appreciate what they are getting into -- don't you?

A well-written introduction will propel your reader into the rest of your article or report.  No matter how important the information in your report is, it won't matter very much if no one reads it!  So do your writing a favor:  follow the five steps above and write a clear, compelling introduction for every article, essay, and report you write.

But how would you like an exclusive, private tour to see Walt Disney World as few ever will? As a former Disney World Cast Member I have volunteered to be your tour guide through the behind-the-scenes world of what makes Disney World so magical.

Mouse A Cookie

A Behind the Scenes and Almost Underground Tour of Disney World By a Former Disney Cast Member

You'll have fun learning about a variety of backstage locations. We'll also take a peek under the Magic Kingdom Park and see Cast Member costuming, wardrobe, the so-called tunnel system, Disney's nursery and tree farm, waste treatment facilities and other service areas.

A Behind the Scenes and Almost Underground Tour of Disney World By a Former Disney Cast Member

Let's start at the end, with sludge. Sludge from the water treatment facility is everybody's business dried out and then used on the grounds for fertilizer. Reclaimed tinkle water is used for watering grass and plants. The water valves are labeled "Reclaimed Water - Do No Drink" Thanks for the heads up, Mickey!

Now we'll visit the plant nursery. Remember all those cool and cute topiary designs around the park? Well, this is where Disney Cast Members grow and shape the topiary critters. All this coolness takes time; about seven to eight years to grow a single topiary character. One of my personal favorites is a smiling Mickey Mouse holding a Disney Vacation Club [http://www.edisneytimeshare.com] sign near the entrance to the Wilderness Lodge Hotel.

Then there is the parade storage area behind Splash Mountain. The back of Splash Mountain has many doors labeled, for example, "Access to Scene 31". Here you'll see Mickey Mania, Spectromagic, and the Electric Water Parade paraphernalia. You can walk around and look at the parade pieces all you want. But no photos please. The Spectromagic floats are made of mesh, so the driver can see out, and are covered with small Christmas-type lights controlled by computers. There is also a small fan to cool down the driver. If you or the kids have always wanted to look inside the Sea Witch float from The Little Mermaid, this is your big chance.

When I was a Disney cast member I strolled the tunnels on my breaks and dined in the underground cafeterias. Very romantic. Actually, the tunnels are fake. Since the water table is very high in Florida it would be costly to keep real tunnels dry. Disney thus built a neat system of utility corridors at ground level and then covered them with dirt. This made a new ground level one floor higher. The Magic Kingdom was built on top of this. Therefore, Main Street USA is actually on the second floor.

The "Utilidors" make a circle around the park connecting all of the Lands and rides. There is also a utility corridor under Main Street USA connecting the entrance to Cinderella's Castle. All of the Magic Kingdom utilities are nestled within the Utilidors. There is water, electricity, fiber optic cable, and the ultra-cool Vacuum Trash System.

The Disney World Vacuum Trash System has become a model for several other very large buildings, and even parts of cities and municipalities. The system uses pipes about two feet in diameter to suck all the trash to a central collection point.

Another unusual device in the Utilidors supplies the various odors to different parts of the park. There is one under the bakery that releases chocolate cookie smell into Main Street. Mickey wanted to use real cookie smell, as I recall. But, alas, there was no way to produce non-stop chocolate chip morsels. So, these odor producer machines are used for cookies and that just-right smell in many other places; smoke, orange groves, and so forth

The Utilidor also has various Cast Member services like a Credit Union, a 2-Hour Film Developer, cafeterias, and lockers. Costuming and wardrobe is also located down here. When I worked there I was always amused to see my favorite characters wandering around half dressed or carrying their heads. The walls of the Utilidors are color coded. There are also many maps and directional signs to help lost Cast Members (like me).

So when you visit Disney World for your 88th trip, keep an eye peeled for a sudden and magical character appearance. Mickey or Minnie may just pop out of a hidden door leading from the Utilidor below. And you'll know their secret!

First, our body "houses" us in one sense. A dream house with many unexplored rooms suggests that there is great undiscovered potential within us.

Mouse A Cookie

When We Dream of House or Home - What Does It Mean

A house's condition may also comment on the state of our mental and emotional well-being. A run-down house suggests we need rest and physical self-care. Our house is a refuge and place of identity, so houses often tell us about our place in the world and how we identify ourselves. If you exaggerate the pronunciation of the letters in the word "house" it sounds like "How-You-See" and, indeed, our "point of view" may be examined and shown to us. Nothing is more invisible to us than our own assumptions or point of view. Don't expect a fish to notice the water he takes for granted.

When We Dream of House or Home - What Does It Mean

When we dream we are back in a childhood house, this gives us a frame of reference for the phase of our personal history the dream is addressing. This may also address child parts of the psyche which are still present in us.

In a given house, we lived with certain people and we dealt with particular issues; these influences may also be addressed. It helps to ask, during what years of my life did I live in that particular house? In retrospect, could you find a theme or two that described that portion of your life? How does that issue apply to today? These will get you started unraveling the many layers of meaning in the house in your dream.

There are many symbols of the interior of houses. The dream house may have higher levels (like a second floor or attic) that connote spiritual values, or less positively, ungrounded intellect or "living in one's head." A basement could evoke the unconscious or perhaps sexuality, while hallways indicate a passage or transition of some sort.

The favorite room of many dreams is the bathroom! This may be because such universal processes are hidden there... just as our interior life is hidden from our waking self. Also, the release of toxins and the process of cleansing are very important to having a healthy mind and heart. Plus, all that plumbing connects to invisible, hidden resources on which visible life depends, just as the invisible realm of dreams underlies and supports our daily life.

Dreams offer a kind of cosmic feng shui, altering our interior homes as a way to nudge us toward health and wholeness. Poet Mary Oliver wrote in "Winter Hours":

"The condition of our true and private self is what dreams are about. If you rise refreshed from a dream--a night's settlement inside some house that has filled you with
pleasure--you are doing okay. If you wake to the memory of
squeezing confinement, rooms without air or light, a door
difficult or impossible to open, a troubling disorganization or even wreckage inside, you are in trouble--with yourself..."

How at home are you with body and spirit? Your next dream of a house may let you know. Happy Homey Dreaming!

There are three main varieties of the cocoa tree, the Forastero, the Criollo, and the Trinitario. If you are eating a chocolate bar today, the bean for that bar probably came from a Forastero Cocoa tree. Ninety percent of the chocolate production in the world today does. The finest chocolates however come from the Criollo tree beans. Now there's a bit of trivia to impress your chocolate loving friends with. Here is another. Chocolate was an American invention and in the 1500's it was, literally, as good as gold and was used by native Americans as currency. Although most believe that the Aztecs were the first to use chocolate, there is evidence that it was used by the ancient Maya as early as 500a.d.

Coco Powder Vs Baking Chocolate? Chocolate Equivalents For Recipe Substitution

Enough of the trivia lesson, you came for chocolate substitutions. Here you go.

Coco Powder Vs Baking Chocolate? Chocolate Equivalents For Recipe Substitution

Yes, you can, usually, successfully interchange a powdered form of coco with a bar form. There are a few things to consider however.

All forms of bar chocolate are a mixture of coco powder, fat, and unless you are using unsweetened baking chocolate, sugar. Many varieties also contain a quantity of milk.. If you have ever left a bar of chocolate on the counter and then put it in the fridge to harden back up, you may have noticed that there appears to be a gray-white film on it. that is the fat that has come to the surface. The bar is still perfectly good to eat or use in cooking. The practice of substituting coco powder for bar forms of chocolate, therefore, is not only perfectly acceptable, it is often desirable.

Coco powder is often a better choice for certain applications. Making hot cocoa for example, in cakes without butter like angel food,or often when making a chocolate variety of cookie. Bar varieties like bakers chocolate are better suited to use in butter based cakes, sauces and puddings like a chocolate mouse.

TO SUBSTITUTE COCO POWDER FOR BAKING CHOCOLATE in a recipe, for every one ounce of bar chocolate called for in the recipe substitute

3 Tablespoons of coco powder and 1 Tablespoon of fat. This fat is usually butter for the best flavor, but margarine and vegetable shortening also produce good results. So for a recipe calling for 3 ounces of bakers chocolate you can safely substitute 9 tablespoons of coco powder and 3 tablespoons of butter or other fat. You can sift the coco powder with the other dry ingredients and add the fat with the other fats in the recipe. You don't have to melt the fat and mix them unless the recipe calls for melted chocolate, like a brownie. The only reason for this is that it helps make the mixture more moist where straight coco tends to make a mix that is a little more dry.

TO SUBSTITUTE BAKING CHOCOLATE FOR COCO POWDER

For every three tablespoons of coco powder called for, use one ounce baking chocolate and eliminate one tablespoon of fat from the recipe. If you are baking a cake, for example that calls for 1 cup of cocoa powder and 2 sticks of butter, you can use 5 1/3 ounces of baking chocolate, melted, and leave out 5 /13 tablespoons of the butter which is a little over 1/2 of a stick.

Chocolate has earned a bad rep over the years, being blamed for everything from acne to tooth decay, but the good news is that recent studies are proving that chocolate is not to blame for many of these problems. In fact, new studies show that eating chocolate may actually be good for you as long as you don't over do it. It can possible lower your risks of heart disease, coat your teeth and help prevent plaque buildup, and help your system fight infection with its high levels of antioxidants.

Chocolate in the forms we know it today would not have been possible before about the mid 1800s.While it is the Dutch and the Swiss who have earned a reputation for the finest chocolates and are primarily responsible for enabling us to be able to use both coco in the powdered form and baking chocolate because of the processes they mastered, it is the Americans that gave chocolate to the world. For me, that is just one more reason to love America.
